What is Lightning?
Per Earth Network, lightning is a natural electrostatic discharge of high-voltage electricity within a thunderstorm, occurring between a cloud and the ground, between two clouds, or within a single cloud.
It’s caused by collisions between ice crystals and water droplets, which create electrical charges that build up, eventually leading to a powerful flash of light and a loud sound called thunder when the heated air expands explosively.
