Obua trounces Kidega and Engola to occupy CEC chair

The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party’s electoral commission led by Dr Tanga Odoi on Wednesday declared the winners for the Central Executive Committee (CEC) vice chairpersons’ seats across all the regions of Uganda.

The declarations were announced at the party’s national delegates conference held at the Kololo Independence Grounds in Kampala.

In the highly contested race for the Northern region, Dr. Tanga Odoi declared Government Chief Whip and Ajuri County MP, Dennis Hamson Obua, as the winner.

Obua secured a decisive victory with 3,591 votes, which translates to 67%.

Obua soundly defeated his main challenger, former State Minister for Housing and the current Senior Presidential Advisor on Lango Affairs, Engola Sam, who garnered only 1,078 votes, representing 20.2%.

A third candidate, Fred Daniel Kidega, former Speaker of the East African Legislative Assembly, received 658 votes, equivalent to 12.3%.

In other regional results, Calvin Martin Echodu was declared the new NRM vice chairperson for the Eastern region after incumbent Flight Captain Mike Mukula pulled out of the race.

For the Karamoja, Dr. Loki John Baptist was elected as the new vice chairperson. He won with 3,694 votes, representing 81% of the total votes.

In the Western region, Jonard Asiimwe emerged victorious with 4,044 votes, 58%, while Salim Saad Uhuru won the Kampala region seat with 2,411 votes, 63%.

Additionally, the State Minister for Finance incharge Microfinance, Haruna Kyeyune Kasolo achieved a milestone by winning the election for NRM vice chairperson of Central region with 4,194 votes, 50.3%.
