“CECly beaten” Kadaga to walk away from NRM some day

The former Speaker of Parliament and the current Kamuli district woman MP Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga could leave the ruling NRM party soon.

In a statement on August 27 after losing her first national female vice chairperson CEC seat to Annet Anita Among, Kadaga cited “gross abuse, bribery and intimidation.”

The race between her and Among, the Speaker of Parliament and Bukedea district woman MP, was more than wanting to be among the top decision makers of the NRM. It was a show of who has the support, money, mobilisation tactic and huge followers (SMMF).

On Wednesday at Kololo Independence Grounds where NRM delegates were electing members of the CEC, Among claimed the SMMF status – beating Kadaga massively.

Dr. Tanga Odoi, the chairperson of the NRM electoral commission, declared Among the winner with 11,680 votes. Kadaga managed to be trusted by 902 delegates. 12582 delegates took part in this particular election.

Shortly after losing her reelection bid, Kadaga had this to say: I deeply thank everyone who, despite massive voter bribery and intimidation, stood by me.

“The gross abuse of office witnessed throughout this election is truly unacceptable. We cherish our party, but if this oppression persists, we shall be left with no choice but to walk away.”

Anita Among also said this:

Dear delegates,

“I am truly grateful for your love and support, not just today but throughout the campaign trail. With deep humility, I accept this landslide victory.

“I want to express my gratitude to our mother, Rt Hon Rebecca Kadaga, for running an excellent campaign and her significant contributions to the party and our country. We will rely on her for advice and guidance in the days ahead.

“Let us return to work, mobilise for our Party leader and flag bearers, and ensure a resounding victory for the mighty NRM.

“God bless you, and God bless our great @NRMOnline!”
