Judith Alyek, Kole district woman Member of Parliament has petitioned the NRM tribunal seeking to be declared the NRM flag bearer for Kole district Woman MP seat in 2026.
Alyek lost the NRM flag in the July 17 primaries and has moved to seek the annulment.
The chairperson of Lango Parliamentary Group (LPG), Alyek, was defeated by newcomer Aceng Sandra. She polled 11,005 votes against Sandra’s 20,215.
tndNews understands that dozens of voters are shocked to learn about the petition.
According to Alyek’s petition No. 105 of 2025 published in the New Vision newspaper, she is accusing both Sandra and the NRM Electoral Commission headed by Dr Tanga Odoi.
The details of the issues she wants addressed remains scanty. However, prior to the polling day, it is believed that Alyek secretly wrote to the NRM Electoral Commission to nullify Sandra’s nomination on the basis of her not duly resigning from her job as a physical planner in Dokolo district.
Aceng has denied this and affirms that she duly tendered in her resignation.
A number of residents have expressed disappointment at Alyek’s move to the tribunal. Akello Terensia from Okwerodot, said: “The election was free and fair. Hon Alyek abandoned her duties immediately after we elected her and she now wants the tribunal to vote her into office and give her a flag.”
Yubentino Omara, another voter from Alito, said: “Our support for Hon Sandra remains unchanged and any resolutions from the tribunal that affect Hon Sandra’s status as our flag bearer will not go unchallenged.
“It is also now clear that it has been Hon Alyek who has been secretly fighting Hon Sandra and other contestants behind the voters back.”
The tribunal is expected to commence hearing on Tuesday July 29, 2025, at the NRM secretariat offices in Kampala.
