Dokolo: Suspects aged 17 and 18 apprehended for throat-cutting girl,18

Police in Dokolo district have apprehended two suspects with the help of a canine dog to support the investigation of the suspected murder of Angwech Mariam,18.

The crime occurred in Agwata forest located in Bung Cell, Amuda Central ward, Agwata Town Council, Dokolo district.

SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, PRO for North Kyoga Region, said in a statement on Christmas Day that the crime was reported to police in Agwata town council station by Okwir Sam, 62.

Okwir is a resident of Alit village, Rao parish in Awiodyek sub-county Lira district.

SP Okema identifies the suspects as: Okello Bonny aged 18. He is a casual labourer with China Forest International Development (CFID) working at Agwata Forest.

He’s a resident of Abenya B cell, Apye ward Agwata town council.

Another suspect is Ojungu Agad, 17, also a casual labourer with China Forest International Development (CFID).

Both suspects are also peasant farmers.

It is alleged that on December 24, 2025, at around 10am, the deceased and her colleague, Apio Vicky, left their home village of Alit village for Agwata Forest to collect firewood. They rode a bicycle.

While in the forest, the two collected firewood and came across a man they didn’t know, who ordered them to pay for the firewood, or he would have sexual acts with all of them.

“The unidentified man moved closer and grabbed the hands of Agwech Mariam and pulled her into the forest of pines. Meanwhile, Apio Vicky ran away and made alarms calling for help but nobody responded since it was deep in the forest.”

Apio Vicky further ran to the Booster Centre, where she met some boda-boda riders who mobilised other people and proceeded to the forest. When the boda boda riders arrived, they discovered Angwech Mariam lying lifeless with throat-cut wounds.

“This matter was reported to Agwata Town Council Police Station for police action. A case file of murder by cutting was registered,” said SP Okema.

Statements were recorded from witnesses: Apio Vicky and the boda-boda riders who recovered the body of the deceased in the pines.

The crime scene was visited and documented by police officer Obura Stephen under the supervision of the District CID for Dokolo D/ASP Odoch Mark Origa.

The deceased was conveyed to the Dokolo Health Centre IV mortuary pending a postmortem report on Police Form 48A and 48B.

“This is a very primitive act,” SP Okema said. “We shall investigate this matter until the perpetrators face the law. We call for calmness and pledge our commitment to seeing that justice prevails for the deceased and bereaved family.”
