The NRM delegates from Lango sub-region have “rejected the endorsement” of Echodu Calvin the position of NRM Regional Vice Chairperson for Eastern Uganda.
This rejection came during a meeting Echodu held with over 1000 delegates in Lira City on Saturday, July 19, 2025, ahead of next month’s scheduled polls.
While addressing delegates from the 10 districts in the Lango sub-region at Tasha Hotel, Echodu urged them to elect a leader committed to transforming people’s lives, rather than one who is less mindful about their welfare.
However, immediately after his speech, a section of delegates voiced strong dissatisfaction to journalists.
The delegates’ primary accusation centered on Echodu’s handling of transport allowance. They alleged it was “shameful” and that Echodu demonstrated a “failure gesture” by giving each flat rate of shs100,000, regardless of the distance they travelled from.
This meant delegates from distant districts like Apac, Oyam, Otuke, Amolatar, Dokolo, Kwania, Kole and Alebtong received the same amount as those from Lira City and Lira District.
Further grievances emerged regarding logistics. Several invited delegates reported missing out on promised food and t-shirts. These complaints surfaced shortly after Echodu’s organizing team explicitly stated that everyone would receive only shs100,000.
The meeting included significant NRM figures such as district chairpersons, newly elected NRM flag bearers, MPs, and LC5 chairpersons.
tndNews understands that a significant number of delegates have now refused to endorse Echodu because of the “little facilitation.” They declared that Captain Mike Mukula remains the best-tested candidate for the position.
Some delegates who spoke to tndNews called for immediate rescue from incumbent Flight Captain Mike Mukula.
A member of Echodu’s campaign team who spoke on condition of anonymity, said what was given was “deemed to be reasonable.”
