Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has made a provocative statement targeting members and supporters of the National Unity Platform (NUP), using language that has sparked attention over the political tensions between the ruling establishment and the opposition party.

In the statement attributed to Muhoozi, he referred to NUP figures using insulting language and appeared to threaten the party’s supporters. His remarks named opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, and Eddie Mutwe, a well-known figure associated with the NUP.

“We enjoy the NUP women who pretend to be men. From Kabobina to Eddie Mutwe…We crush them like bugs,” the statement reads. The wording has drawn attention because of its aggressive tone and the personal references to individuals linked to the opposition.

NUP, led by Bobi Wine, has remained one of the most prominent opposition political forces in Uganda. The party has repeatedly raised concerns about the treatment of its members and supporters, particularly during periods of political mobilisation and security operations.

Eddie Mutwe is known among NUP supporters for his association with Bobi Wine. Mentioning him alongside the opposition leader places the statement within the wider political rivalry between the NUP and figures in the country’s security establishment.

The language attributed to Muhoozi has also renewed discussion about the tone used by political and security leaders when addressing opponents. Statements that appear threatening can heighten tensions, particularly in an environment where political disagreements have previously led to confrontations.

However, the statement alone does not establish whether any specific operation or action against the named individuals has been ordered. Any interpretation of the remarks should therefore distinguish between the words attributed to Muhoozi and confirmed developments on the ground.

The remarks add to the ongoing political exchanges involving government and opposition figures in Uganda. Further responses from NUP or the individuals mentioned could provide additional context about how the statement is being received and whether it leads to any new developments.
