Lira – Speaking to TND News’ Frank Oyugi in January 2020, Fred Oyite – a father to Linda Acan, 8, said in 2018 doctors discovered a hole in her daughter’s heart and that he was advised to take her for immediate surgery.
However, Mr Oyite added that they are [were] too broke and couldn’t afford heart surgery bill.
He further told Frank Oyugi that the Uganda Heart Institute in Kampala was demanding close to shillings 19 million for the surgery.
Following his cry, fundraising was done and shillings10.8m was raised, a generous support from Lango people in the Diasporas and home, companies and businesses – including some well-wishers.

A fortnight ago – or so – TND News contacted Dr Max Okwir of Lira Regional Referral Hospital who’s handling the patient, and has been central in sourcing for resources.
According to Dr Okwir, Linda Acan’s surgery has been scheduled for April. He didn’t mentioned the exact date.
“Because the line was long, according to the surgeon in charge, Dr Oketcho,” he said.
He added: “She had what we call TOF spells, we admitted her in Lira Hospital. Better now. But we cannot send them home until date of surgery is near.”
TOF spells, according to him is when oxygen gets little in the head, because of heart disease and then the patient convulses.
