Kwania MP Ayoo to seek re-election on an independent ticket

Kwania County MP Tonny Ayoo will seek re-election in the 2026 general election on an independent ticket, tndNews understands.

Ayoo has yet to publicly announce his independent mission, but close sources have hinted.

The decision comes after his loss to Tony Eron in the NRM primary election on July 17. According to Moses Odongo, the NRM district registrar for Kwania, Eron received 7,732 votes to Ayoo’s 7,253.

“It (the election) was not free and fair because we saw security taking the centre stage during election time and declaration time at the tallying centre,” one of MP Ayoo’s political assistants said.

“For instance, we were told by our agents in Bung Parish, Ayabi sub-county that they were chased away by the security team. We could not get results for that area at the time we wanted it.”

Ayoo revealed on a local radio station a day after his loss that votes from his strongholds were manipulated, and he thanked Kwania’s RDC for contributing to his loss.

“To add on, at the tallying centre, the RDC ordered the district registrar not to accept any results coming from the time they had started counting votes,” one source said.

The source told tndNews that “we don’t know if security or RDC is the one to give such orders or the district registrar himself.”

“By the time such orders were being given there was nothing like chaos at the tallying centre, the situation was calm.”

Votes from three villages in the Chawente sub-county were not counted, and the registrar was arrested after the results in Alango village were altered.

“Ayoo has urged his people to remain calm as he does more consultations with the party officials and the party national chairman but he’s going to run independent,” his political assistant said.

MP Ayoo, NRM MP Whip for Lango, could not be reached by phone on Monday regarding his independent decision.
