Moses Opito and Nommy Otyeno have all declared their intention to run for the Oyam South MP seat on an independent ticket in 2026.
On Tuesday, the pair spoke to the media in Lira City, announcing their intention to pursue their MP bids for 2026-2031.
Opito and Otyeno also questioned the legitimacy of the recently concluded NRM party primary elections, in which they finished third and second, respectively.
According to Opito, the outcome of the primary election is not the true will of the people of Oyam South, stating that those who organised and managed the election are the first enemies of Lango and NRM party.
Ajok Bless Otim, for her part, stated that she will represent the women of the Oyam district in whatever capacity she can.
Ajok also refuted the results. “I am convinced with the outcomes of the results, I pitched my ideas to the people and the declaration was made at around 3am.”
“There was no democracy, there was no fairness. The votes and results were just given to a particular candidate with manipulated figures,” Ajok said.

“I am strong, and i am coming back to campaign to represent your voice in the 12th Parliament,” Ajok added.
In a joint press statement, Otyeno, Opito, Anyango Stella and Ajok said voting was carried out before the stipulated time (12:00pm to 2:00pm). In Kamdini town council and areas of Kamdini sub-county (notably Zambia parish and Pukicha parish, voting ended by 11:30am.
“This meant that voters who arrived within the legal voting time could not participate, as the process had already ended and registrars had left.”
The undersigned revealed that nonparty members and even children were allowed to vote and were counted, while some genuine NRM members found their names missing in the voting register.
“Voter registers were mixed up with outdated lists from 2016, 2021 and 2025 used inconsistently.”
They also stated that the sub-county, parish and village NRM chairpersons were instructed by the NRM Oyam District Executive Committee to support only the so-called state preferred candidates. “They complied fully.”
“Local NRM party leaders in Oyam district deliberately misinformed voters: They falsely stated that the voting date would be changed and also that only 30 people per village were allowed to vote.”

On July 17, Jackoline Adong, NRM party registrar for Oyam district declared Jane Frances Acilo and Patrick Ogwang Obura as flag bearers for Oyam district woman MP and Oyam South MP seats in the 2026 general election.
