On Wednesday, June 4, 2025, Boniface Okot, the current Youth Member of Parliament for northern Uganda and chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Tourism, Trade, and Industry, officially declared his candidacy for the Kole South Parliamentary seat.
The announcement came on the second day of the NRM party nominations process, in which aspirants select forms ahead of primary elections.
Okot’s decision to run for the Kole South MP seat has sparked widespread enthusiasm among constituents, bolstered by his proven track record of service. His resume, marked by tangible achievements and initiatives, positions him as a formidable contender.
As youth MP, Okot said he has championed transformative initiatives for northern Uganda’s youth, including restoring the Youth Livelihood Program as chairperson of the Youth Forum.
He added that he has advocated for a successful 300% increase in the National Youth Council budget (from shs1 billion to shs4 billion).
Others are distributing heifers to district youth leaders and coordinating intensive farming training at Kawumu Presidential Demonstration Farm, securing State House scholarships for 40 students and facilitating recruitment of 50 youth into national forces.
Driving parliamentary adoption of annual youth reports and delivering critical petitions on behalf of Northern Uganda’s youth.
Okot’s bid is driven by his commitment to reversing Kole South’s status as one of Uganda’s poorest-performing constituencies: a region he describes as suffering from chronic underrepresentation.
He sharply criticized current interventions as merely symptomatic relief. “The existing approach is like treating malaria with Panadol—it masks the pain but doesn’t cure the disease,” Okot stated.
“I am firm, unshaken, and ready to overcome any opposition to deliver sustainable change.”
His campaign will prioritize grassroots mobilization, reflecting broad community support. Okot acknowledged voluntary contributions from multiple groups that funded his nomination fee and initial campaign activities—a testament, he noted, to public trust in his mission.
This backing ensures his team’s readiness for the electoral process ahead.
With a blend of legislative experience and demonstrable results, Okot is poised to reshape Kole South’s trajectory.
As he embarks on this campaign, his resolve is unwavering: to replace neglect with effective representation and spark long-term development in the constituency.
