Gulu – 2, February 2021: The National Resistance Movement (NRM) party flag bearer for youth MP seat Northern Uganda was declared the winner of the February 1 youth delegates election.
Mr Boniface Henry Okot got 1,280 votes, beating four others, among them Mr Young Boniface of National Unity Platform (NUP) who came second with 104 votes; Mr Obal Daniel (IND) came third with 75 votes.
Others were Ocata Kelvin (IND) who got 10 votes and Mr Odero Patrick (FDC) who came last with only 3 votes.
The youth MP-elect, Mr Okot, was declared the winner by Ms Bukirwa Sarah, the returning officer of the electoral commission (EC).
There was a total of 1,472 valid votes cast for all the candidates, 13 invalid votes, the EC data shows.
According to Mr Okot, as quoted by the Independent, his main agenda for the five year–term is to economically empower the youth of Northern Uganda so that they can eradicate poverty.
In October 2019, he spoke to TND News about his political quest for youth MP seat. He said the current (outgoing) youth leader, MP Oscar Omony Otema has done his part and must relinquish ‘his office’ to him.
