Amolatar | As Uganda gears up for the next general elections in 2026, the people of Amolatar district have a reason to reflect on the impactful transformative leadership of their Woman Member of Parliament, Dr. Agnes Atim Apea.
Apea has officially declared her bid for re-election.
Known by many as a pragmatic and visionary leader, Dr. Apea has been a formidable voice for Amolatar in the 11th Parliament. She has advocated for grassroots development, women’s empowerment, education, and healthcare improvements.
Her tenure has been marked by tangible projects and legislative contributions that have uplifted many lives in the district.
Since assuming office in 2021, Apea has championed several key initiatives, including:
Education advocacy by lobbying for construction of Etam, Arwotcek, Akwon and Agikdak seed schools; Agikdak SDA secondary school, construction of Aninolal, Akuriluba primary schools, renovation of Aputi primary school among others.
She also offered scholarships for needy students, ensuring that education remains a priority in Amolatar.
On healthcare, she recognized the district’s health challenges, and lobbied for construction of a children’s ward at Amolatar HCIII, theater at Amai Hospital and provided beds, mama kits for better-equipped health centers.
Her efforts saw increased access to maternal care, reducing maternal and child mortality rates.
Women and youth empowerment: Through economic programs and skills training, she has fundraised shs50m to start the construction of youth skills development centre, supported women and youth in entrepreneurship by providing saving boxes and seed capital to all the 650 villages in Amolatar.
Agriculture development: Dr Apea contributed significantly to the development of agriculture in the district and the country as a whole through a variety of efforts including but not limited to: drafting, legislating and passing Fish and Aquaculture Bill to improve fisheries and fishers livelihood.
She also advocated for farmer-friendly policies in parliament, such as minimum crop insurance, tax waivers, and increased budget allocations to agriculture. Apea has promoted local irrigation projects in Namsale and Etam sub-counties, and facilitated training programs for farmers.
Additionally, she has established rice and maize mills in Amolatar and Namsale for value addition and to reduce post-harvest losses, and has connected farmers to the micro support centre in Kampala.
Infrastructure development: Dr. Apea has worked closely with government agencies to improve roads and water access. This has addressed some of the long-standing challenges in the district.
She lobbied shs1.2b to construct the district administration offices.
Why she deserves another term
Residents who have benefited from her leadership describe her as approachable, hardworking, and deeply committed to Amolatar’s growth.
“Dr. Apea doesn’t just talk; she delivers. She has helped our community with mobile clinic ambulances,” Jane Adong, a local entrepreneur, said.
She added: “Apea has carried out medical camps that treated and provided specialized services to thousands of people, supported our children’s education, and always listens to our concerns.”
Political analysts say her grassroots connections and legislative effectiveness make her a strong candidate for re-election.
According to Apea, her campaign will focus on continuity, sustainable development, and amplifying Amolatar’s voice in national debates.
“We have made progress, but there is more work to be done. Together, we can achieve greater development and ensure no one is left behind;she stated during her campaign launch,” she said.
