Stephen Tumwine, commissioner for Local Economic Development (LED) in the Ministry of Local Government has trained heads of departments of Amolatar district on capacity building for sustainable local economic development.

The training took place on June 16 and 17, 2025, at the district production hall. The training was aimed at enhancing the capacity of heads of departments regarding the implementation of the Parish Development Model (PDM).

tndNews understands that Tumwine also assessed Promoting Rural Development in Northern Uganda (PRUDEV 11), an essential project intended to bolster local economic development through investment committees.

Additionally, the training provided the Local Economic Development Investment Committee (LEDIC) with valuable insights into PDM execution and emphasized the significance of developing an area-economic profile.

This profile is crucial as it creates a bridge that connects PDM enterprises to market opportunities, thereby elevating the potential for sustainable growth within the community.

Tumwine highlighted the necessity of crafting a detailed district profile capable of promoting Amolatar effectively to attract diverse development organizations.

By establishing a robust economic narrative, he said the district can position itself favorably in the eyes of potential investors and partners.

Furthermore, Tumwine underscored the urgency of enhancing the tourism sector and related industries through strategic recruitment. He advocated for the hiring of dedicated tourism staff, arguing that a strengthened tourism sector would play a pivotal role in augmenting local revenue and fostering economic resilience in the central region of Uganda.

The two-day training epitomized a forward-thinking approach towards local economic development, empowering district leaders with the tools and knowledge necessary to implement impactful strategies that benefit the residents of Amolatar.

The district said the collaborative efforts under PRUDEV 11 and support from the Ministry of Local Government will further ensure the successful realization of these developmental goals, paving the way for a prosperous future.

The commitment shown by the district leadership and participants reflect a shared vision for sustainable development that prioritizes local resources and capacities, thus holding great promise for the economic enhancement of Amolatar district.
