Kole | On Wednesday, a mob brutally lynched and set fire to two unidentified men in Akalo town council’s Kole district.
The decision comes after claims that they stole shs2 million from a mobile money agent in Dokolo district.
The incident represents yet another escalation in the Lango sub-region’s vigilante justice.
They allegedly robbed a mobile money agent in Agwata town council before fleeing on a TVS motorcycle bearing the registration number UAM 420BR.
According to the police report, they rode up to the Akalo town council and stopped to refuel. They continued on to Adya Primary School in Barilwa Cell, Akalo.
As per the police report, the suspects were apprehended at Adya Primary School, Barilwa Cell, at approximately 1:30 pm by boda boda vigilantes who were pursuing them.
After they were apprehended, the mob began beating them severely, resulting in serious injuries and death.
SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, PRO North Kyoga Region condemned the act he said is against the law.
“Mob justice violates Articles 22 and 24 of Uganda Constitution,” he said. SP Okema has asked residents to always hand suspects to police. “Don’t become killers yourselves.”
Local leader Awira Ezekiel has urged calm amid fears of retaliation.
