The Kiira regional police command has launched an extensive search for armed robbers who committed a fatal robbery at Praise God Hardware Shop in Buwenge.
The crime took place on the evening of Friday, April 4, 2025.
According to Region Police PRO, SP James Mubi, the robbers stormed the hardware shop around 8 p.m. and stole an undisclosed amount of cash.
SP Mubi added that one man was fatally shot and another was seriously injured.
The deceased, Bumali Mbadi, and the injured victim, Eric Matege, were both customers of the hardware store at the time of the attack.
Mbadi died from gunshot wounds, and his body was taken to the Jinja Regional Referral Hospital mortuary. Matege was still receiving specialised treatment at the same hospital as of Sunday evening.
Following the incident, officers from Buwenge Police Station, led by DPC SP Morris Oyee, rushed to the scene.
Police recovered one cartridge, which was later sent to the Government Analytical Laboratory (GAL) in Kampala for ballistic analysis.
SSP Charles Nsaba, who leads the Kiira Regional Police Command, stated that the manhunt is still ongoing and urged anyone with information that could help the investigation to contact Buwenge Police Station or the regional headquarters.
Despite the tragic incident, police reaffirmed their commitment to public safety and urged residents to remain vigilant.
“We encourage the public to stay alert and report any suspicious activity in their neighborhoods,” said SP Mubi.
The police have vowed to pursue the perpetrators to the fullest extent possible.
