Oyam | NRM’s Jane Frances Acilo outlines her priority sectors during Aber rallies

While campaigning in Aber sub-county, Oyam South on Tuesday, November 2, the NRM candidate for the Oyam district woman MP seat 2026-2031 mentioned key sectors she will focus on once she becomes part of the 12th Parliament.

The five-year people-centred program, Jane Frances Acilo said in Aber, aims at strengthening essential public services and infrastructures.

‎In Atura and Adyegi parishes, Aber, Acilo emphasised that her manifesto is grounded in improving the lives of residents and the entire Oyam through practical and people-focused initiatives.

Healthcare improvement is one of her top priorities, pledging to advocate for better-equipped health centres, increased medical staffing, and accessibility to essential drugs.

‎Education also featured prominently in her address at both venues. The NRM candidate promised to push for enhanced learning facilities and school feeding programs where every learner in primary school can have two meals a day.

Still on education, she’s committed to motivating teachers, and providing stronger support for both primary and secondary schools to ensure that children in Aber receive quality education.

‎She is committing herself to lobbying for the rehabilitation of road networks across the district to ease transportation, especially for farmers and small businesses that rely on road access to various markets.

On agriculture and markets for produce, ‎Acilo also underscored the need to revamp the produce market system (PMS) and enable access to farmers and the markets.

To maize farmers in Oyam, they won’t cry for low prices anymore. ‎Starting this December, a kilogram of maize grains will be bought at shs1,000. This price is nearly 100% increase on the current price standing at between shs400 to shs500 per kilo.

Electricity has been one of the demands made by the residents across Oyam. From Loro to Myene, and Minakulu and Aleka, most homes and trading centres lack power connections.

Since November 10, Acilo has expressed a commitment to push for rural electrification projects so that households, schools, health centres, and small enterprises can be connected.

In ‎Adyegi and Atura, her promise of electricity access was welcomed. ‎

What locals say

Adong Winny is the chairperson for Persons with Disabilities in Adyegi parish and Aber sub-county. On Tuesday, she pledged her unwavering support for Jane Frances Acilo.

She said Acilo’s messages resonate strongly with the crowd, symbolising “inclusivity and voices of marginalised communities.”

The chairperson for PWDs described Acilo’s rally in Adyegi “as a turning point for hope and representation.”

Nancy Emmanuel Elem of Eastern Ward in Oyam Town Council last week desired a leader who can help people once elected. Elem, one of those who made time to listen to Acilo, applauded her campaign approach of going down to the villages to share her manifesto.

“Her engagement with the people, how she talks is good. For years, we who are here have been used to hearing that some politicians have campaigned at the sub-county headquarters; today, we are having Acilo here.”

Pamela Oduny of Ayira B Cell, Eastern Ward, said she was attending the rally to listen to a leader who listens to the people and responds to their issues.

Oduny described Acilo as a leader who listens to the cries of the farmers and negotiates better market prices for their produce.

Obonyo Frances of Adyeda B village, Adyeda parish in Eastern Ward, joined women in applauding Acilo for going to villages to share her manifesto.

He said for the past years, the majority of politicians shun village-to-village campaigns, something Acilo is targeting.

“Today, I have listened to what Imat (Acilo) has said for us farmers. We buy seeds expensively and sell them at a low price. Now that she has promised us the market, we will be happy if she’s elected.”

Acilo is not only promising a new Oyam in terms of household transformation, but also to oust UPC’s Santa Alum Ogwang in January 2026.

Alum has been in Parliament for three terms.
