Phillips Ogile Jakayo, the Abok LC3 chairperson and NRM publicity secretary for Oyam district, was arrested and detained on Tuesday at Oyam Central Police Station for alleged libel.
Ogile is accused of falsely accusing Jane Frances Acilo, an aspiring Oyam woman MP candidate, of kidnapping and killing Ojok Julious.
Ojok is also known as Ojok Adidit. He resided in Arwotongo village, Juma parish, Myene sub-county, Oyam district.
On February 18, Ogile reportedly used his phone to post on various social media platforms claims that Jane Frances Acilo arrested and killed Ojok in 2018.
This prompted Acilo to report the libel case against Ogile to the Oyam Central Police Station for further investigation.
Police summoned Ogile to the district CID office to record his statement, where he was detained.
He was later released on police bond after his surety, Geoffery Okec, provided all required documents.
According to a police officer who preferred to remain anonymous, an investigation into this matter has begun, and Ogile is expected to be summoned or arrested and brought before a court to answer the charges against him.
When contacted for comment shortly after his release, Ogile denied the allegations and promised to continue fighting for the rights of Ojok Julious, whose whereabouts remain unknown.
Ogile, on the other hand, proposed a dialogue with Acilo rather than going to court.
The libel case against Ogile has been filed under CRB 135/2025 at Oyam Central Police Station, pending further investigation.
