A teacher of a rural secondary school in Oyam district, northern Uganda, is among nine other suspects arrested by police officers on Monday, August 24.

Head teacher of Ngai Secondary School, Janani Okot, told police detectives that the school’s computer lab was broken into by unknown individuals at around 2:00 am on August 23, 2026.

The suspects, now identified, stole equipment valued at approximately shs40 million.

The ICT teacher, identified as Olobo Tonny, and others are accused of stealing 16 HP Central Processing Units for desktop computers.

Police PRO for North Kyoga Region, SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, told the press on Monday that upon discovering the break-in at approximately 7:40 am, the headteacher immediately alerted the ICT teacher.

Together, they reported the incident to Oyam Central Police Station.

Police swiftly responded to the scene and arrested ten suspects to aid their investigations.

SP Okema added that a case file for office break-in and theft was opened to investigate the matter.

Ngai Secondary School is one of the oldest learning institutions in Oyam, and was highly affected by nearly two and a half decades of the LRA insurgency.

It’s one of those schools the government and development partners have started to revive.
