Policeman kills ex-minister Maganda’s wife

The wife of Julius Maganda, ex-minister of East African Affairs, died in a road crash on Sunday.

Taka Florence died on February 2 at 5 p.m., according to a statement released on Monday by SP Michael Kananura, the PRO directorate of traffic and road safety.

SP Kananura stated that the incident occurred near Kitukutwe on the Kiwologoma-Nakwero road.

The crash involved two vehicles, UAX 937P T/Premio and UAM 516B T/Harrier, he said.

According to eyewitnesses, the Toyota Harrier had pulled over to the side of the road, and the co-driver (deceased) had stepped out to load food items purchased from a nearby stall.

“Tragically, the driver of Premio, traveling in the same direction, lost control & rammed into the Harrier, pinning Taka Florence between the vehicles.”

Despite being rushed to the hospital, Taka Florence succumbed to her severe injuries, Kananura added.

The driver and co-driver of Premio, PC Nuwagaba Wilber and ASP Atwebembere Achilles, both police officers attached to Kiira Division Police Station, were also injured and are currently receiving medical attention.

According to the Uganda Police Force’s annual crime report, at least 13 people are killed in road crashes every day.
