Brig Gen (rtd) Emmanuel Rwashande has advised Ugandan youth to embrace good leadership skills and be inspired by the leaders of the 1981 NRA struggle.

Rwashande emphasized that by doing so, youth can play an important role in propelling the country forward.

He made the remarks on Saturday at Lwemiyaga Health Centre III while launching a cleaning exercise.

The activity is part of the ongoing Tarehe Sita commemorations in the Greater Masaka area.

The retired army officer praised President Yoweri Museveni’s visionary leadership, which has transformed the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) from a ragtag army to a respected international force that contributes to African peace.

He also praised the UPDF for its initiative to give back to communities, emphasizing the importance of such efforts.

Masaka was significant in the NRA’s struggle, he said, and it served as a key route during the 1981 attack on Kabamba.

The attack on Kabamba marked the start of Uganda’s long-running liberation war, which has led to its current situation.

In order to improve Uganda’s future, Brig Gen Rwashande further advised the youth to maintain their focus, learn about the country’s past, and carry on the NRA’s legacy.

He encouraged them to participate in leadership training in order to improve their management skills and contribute effectively to national development.

In addition, he urged them to support government programs like the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga in order to combat poverty.

Maj Gen (Rtd) Phinehas Katirima donated a book titled Struggle for Self-Determination to the Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) groups.

The book documents the NRA’s history and provides insights into social transformation.
