Awany tips Wisdom High School students on leadership skills

Wisdom

Kole | Andrew Moses Awany, the Kole LC5 chairman, has given students tips and advice on how to advance in leadership while continuing their education.

Awany made the remarks on Sunday, July 14, 2024, at Wisdom High Senior Secondary School. He was witnessing the handover of student leaders for 2024-2025.

“I am encouraging the incoming leaders to be decisive in their leadership, to give space while saving the rest. “My dear young generation who are taking on leadership today, unite and communicate openly and frequently,” he stated.

The Kole chairman advised new leaders to set a good example for the people they lead.

As elders in leadership, Awany believes students must work together and embrace teamwork. “We must avoid compromising because if you are a leader you listen to the people before you react…”

Awany, the Chief Guest, urged the outgoing and incoming student leaders to emulate his leadership style.

“I began my leadership in primary school, where I was a head prefect. After primary school, I was a class monitor in senior one, a dormitory captain in senior three, a dining hall captain, and the school and district UNSA president in senior five.

He later became the secretary of the national student council. All of the above indicated that he had made significant progress in terms of leadership.

“…I was appointed deputy RDC, full RDC, and now district chairman, serving as vice president of all local governments in Uganda. You can build yourself now with what you have.”

Meanwhile, Amborse Ogwal, Executive Director of Wisdom High School, encouraged the incoming leaders to be like “King Solomon,” who trusted God to give him wisdom and led the generation with confidence.

Ogwal encouraged students to prioritise their academic studies first, and then move on to other school activities. He said that there would not be any more for your education without a thorough study.

The outgoing head prefect, Ojok Ivan, stated, “I must thank God during the time of our leadership, and to the incoming leaders, let us unite because nothing shall defeat us.”

The outgoing UNSA president, Aringo Prisca, said, “Let me take this opportunity to welcome the incoming leaders and encourage them to work hard with the school administration to achieve success in their leadership journey. There’s a lot of  sacrifice.”

Attending the handover ceremony was Martin Ogwang, the Project Manager of Plan International Uganda, Lira City office.

He praised the outgoing leaders for the important roles they played during their tenure.

“Let not be a micromanager in leadership.”

In 2018, Wisdom High Secondary was established. It has both O and A levels. It educates students in the Lango sub-region and throughout northern Uganda. “Our excellence is on the rise,” ED Ogwal declared.

Wisdom is situated in Akalo Town Council, Kole district. Out of 157 candidates who took the final exams in 2022, they received 63 first grades and 75 second grades.

Out of 163 candidates who took the exam in 2023, they produced 75 in grade one and 84 in grade two.
