St. Mary’s Hospital Lacor starts goiter surgery camp

Gulu | St. Mary’s Hospital Lacor in Gulu district has announced the start of the 2025 goiter surgery camp.

The Catholic-owned hospital, founded in 1959, plans to treat 150-200 goiter patients this year.

“We have been conducting goitre surgical camps for the past 20 years,” the hospital says.

The health facility has welcomed a team of surgeons from the University of Florence in Italy.

Those who require surgery can register on Tuesday and Friday.

Goiter is an abnormal enlargement of the butterfly shaped gland (thyroid). It commonly develops as a result of iodine deficiency or inflammation of the thyroid.

Lacor Hospital, as it is also known, has been offering medical services to people outside of the Acholi and Lango sub-regions since its founding.

Today, it has ten medical departments, including those for pediatrics and child health, anaesthesia, radiology, public health, and surgery.
