The Amolatar district local government has distributed 490 roofing sheets to Abwockwar Primary School and the Awonangiro Church in Uganda.
Distributions were made on Wednesday, December 11.
The Office of the Prime Minister released these roofing sheets on August 29, 2024, and they were delivered to the district on December 5, 2024, according to Luciri Geoffrey, Deputy Chief Administrative Officer.
The building material is intended to help the vulnerable community in Amolatar.
Luciri stated that an assessment was conducted to validate the request for the materials.
He went on to explain that the iron sheets are under the purview of the Ministry of Northern Uganda and are intended to help institutions and vulnerable populations.
Awonangiro Church received 300 sheets, while Abwockwar Primary School was given 190 sheets, with a focus on responsible use.
Geoffrey Ocen, Amolatar district LC5 chairperson, urged both the church and the school to consider using the remaining sheets to roof the catechist’s house or to house school teachers.
He recognized the fruitful collaboration between district leaders and Members of Parliament.
President Museveni is commended by Ocen for “his support to the Amolatar community through the provision of iron sheets.”
Additionally, James Auna thanked the district leaders and members of parliament on behalf of Apea, the district’s woman MP.
Auna has advocated for the appropriate use of iron sheets.
The catechist at Awonangiro Church of Uganda, Olum Patrick, expressed gratitude to the district leaders and members of parliament for helping to provide the iron sheets.
David Egwang, the headteacher of Abwockwar Primary School, thanked all stakeholders for their efforts to foster development in Amolatar.
Assistant Resident District Commissioner Pule Bonniface thanked the President’s and Prime Minister’s offices for responding to the district’s request, emphasizing that this was a collaborative effort to ensure that the iron sheets served their intended purpose.
