The UPDF has confirmed an operation against the three camps of LRA top commander Joseph Kony in the Central African Republic (CAR).
According to the Force, on August 20, 2024, UPDF commandos coordinated with SSPDF and CAR security forces to launch an operation against three Joseph Kony camps east of Sam Ouanja, CAR.
According to the statement, all camps have been destroyed and equipment has been captured.
“Remnants of the LRA still taking refuge in CAR or elsewhere on continent Africa will be hunted down.
“Unless they hand themselves in to authorities for proper processing and rehabilitation, they will continue to be considered as criminals.”
For at least two decades, the LRA has been inactive in Uganda. The northern and eastern parts of the country that it (the LRA) once ravaged are still recovering from the effects of the civil war.
The United States government has put $5m bounty for anyone who will get Gen Joseph Kony alive. Many months later, Kony is nowhere to be seen.
