Kampala | Major General Jack Bakasumba, Chief of Joint Staff, has thanked the British government for its ongoing assistance in training the Uganda People’s Defence Forces.
Bakasumba made the remarks while meeting with a British military delegation who paid him a courtesy call at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs Headquarters in Mbuya, Kampala.
Maj Gen Bakasumba stated that the training improved UPDF soldiers’ capabilities and resilience, thereby contributing to Somalia’s peace and stability.
The Chief of Joint Staff recognised the importance of building a patriotic and robust force in Somalia to defend the country.
He expressed the UPDF’s willingness to strengthen the already good relationship and continue working together.
Brigadier General Olly Bryant, Head of British Defence Staff for East Africa, praised the UPDF’s efforts to maintain peace and stability in Somalia.
He pledged to continue supporting the UPDF, particularly in advanced training that will help soldiers’ resilience and capabilities.
