Lira | “God wants life but the World wants death, God wants unity but the world wants disunity to ruin the hearts of humanity.”
The Bishop of Lira Diocese, Rt. Rev. Sanctus Lino Wanok, delivered the above homily while ordaining four deacons to the priesthood.
On August 1, 2024, hundreds of congregants attended the function at the Lira Cathedral Ordination Ground.
The Bishop stated that the ordination of the priests should be interpreted as a call to all people living in the darkness of the world, full of suffering, to see the light through them, because their call is also our call.
Bishop Wanok also tasked the newly ordained priests with obedience to God and accountability to their superior, the Bishop.
He urged the clergy to abandon their past traditional desires and follow God’s call to preach the gospel.
During the same event, the Bishop’s office announced the transfer of priests to other duty stations. Fr. Deogracious Odwee of Aloi Catholic Parish will be the Parish Priest at Teboke Parish, while Fr. Jacob Raymond Komakech of Alanyi will be the Curate.
Fr. Carlo Ojuka from Teboke will serve as Curate in Aduku, Fr. Douglas Owera from Minakulu as Parish Priest in Alanyi, and Fr. Caesar Okello from Anyeke as Caretaker of Etam Sub-Parish in Amolatar.
Other Curates include Fr. Stephen Ocen from Aber to Anyeke, Fr. Vincent Okullo from Teboke to Aber, Fr. Jimmy Ojede from Alanyi to Erute St. Philip’s Sub-Parish, and Fr. Boniface Aruku from Lira Cathedral Parish to Agwata.
Fr. Douglas Ogwal served as Parish Priest from Erute Sub-Parish to Bala, Fr. Alfred Okello Senior as Parish Priest from Bala to Agweng, Fr. Emmanuel Opio Etam as Parish Priest from Aduku to Orum, and Fr. Stephen Odwongo as Curate from Agweng to Lira Cathedral, respectively.
Fr. Dr. Polycarp Opio goes to Bishop Emeritus’ House and Chaplain Comboni College; Fr. Leone Okello from Agwata to Minakulu as Parish Priest; Fr. Alex Eyok Acek from Amolatar to Bishop’s House; Fr. Ambrose Achir from Abongodyang to Bishop’s House; Fr. Morris Otyang from Orum to Aloi as Parish Priest; and Fr. Peter Clever Ongom from Alanyi to Lira Cathedral as Curate.
However, four priests from the Lira Diocese have been suspended indefinitely for unclear reasons.
The Chancellor of Lira Diocese, Rev Fr. Emmanuel Opio, announced the suspension during the ordination of new priests on Thursday.
The suspended priests are Fr. John Bosco Ojede, Fr. Joel Omeja, Fr. Moses Otom, and Fr. Alfred Okello Junior.
“The Bishop is empowering the entire Christian community to pray for these our brothers, that they may receive the Grace to reconcile with the Lord and His church, whom they have promised to serve,” Fr. Opio added.
Fr. Isaac Ojok was ordained by the Missionary Congregation of the Camillians, originally from Lira Cathedral, Fr. Haron Ojok and Fr. Moses Opio, both from Uganda Martyrs Parish Minakulu, and Fr. Brian Ekwaro by the Spiritan Congregation, originally from Christ the King Teboke Parish.
They have been assigned to work in the Parishes where they have served as deacons.
