Lira | On Saturday, June 29, dozens of tourism enthusiasts gathered to witness the unveiling of Miss Tourism Northern Uganda.
Seats at the St Lira Hotel were full for the 12th edition of Miss Tourism Northern Uganda.
Gloria Alele, Coordinator of Miss Tourism – Northern Uganda Cluster, took the lead in organising the event, which was themed “Peace and Tourism.”
Numerous individuals and corporate entities endorsed the cause.
Julie Opio represented Lira City woman MP Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero, who had been invited as the chief guest.
Opio is a prominent hotelier who owns 291 Suites in Odokomit, Lira City West. She is also the director of Vince Tours, a popular tourist-oriented company.
Speaking on behalf of the chief guest, Opio stated that Dr. Aceng encourages the people of Lango and Northern Uganda to invest in tourism.
Dr. Aceng, who is also the Minister of Health, stated that she is willing to further support and promote domestic tourism in order to benefit Lango residents and businesses.
Tourists will be able to visit Lango and the surrounding areas if services and sites are managed and promoted, she said.
Uganda earns billions of dollars from tourism, making it one of the top foreign exchange earners.
The chief guest contributed shs1 million to the organisation.
Julie Opio pledged to provide free lodging to all contestants for the 13th edition, which will take place next year.
She stated that the doors to the 291 Suites are open to welcome future events of such importance.
Regional Members of Parliament, including Gilbert Olanya (Kilak South, Acholi), Okot Boniface (Northern Uganda Youth MP), and Lira City Mayor Sam Atul, were among those in attendance.

Artists including Brazen Rule, Okeng Born Town, Queen Akira, and Easy Wizzy delivered outstanding performances.
Lakaraber Giovanna Kelsey of Gulu City was crowned Miss Tourism Northern Uganda 2024.
