Muntu sub-county donates hoes to her older persons

Hoes

Amolatar | Muntu sub-county in Amolatar district has assisted its elderly persons in an effort to boost agricultural productivity in the community.

On Friday, May 10, the sub-county donated at least 15 local hoes to “vulnerable older persons” who do not receive the Social Assistant Grant for Empowerment (SAGE), a government programme aimed at assisting senior citizens.

Banya Alfred, the male councillor who represents the elderly, addressed the hoes’ beneficiaries.

He also praised the sub-county authorities for complying with their request to assist the elderly.

Banya, who also serves as the sub-county speaker, stated that at least two beneficiaries were selected from each parish.

He warned them to make the best use of the hoes to generate income for their families.

Anyai Patrick, chairperson of the elders council, urged the beneficiaries not to sell the hoes and instead engage in agricultural activities.

Anyai advised those who did not benefit to be patient as they plan to cater for them in October, when they celebrate Older Persons Day 2024.

Imat Jenty Apio, a Nabyata parish resident and one of the beneficiaries, thanked the sub-county authorities and demanded more hoes.

Another beneficiary, Mzee Charles Eyaa, a resident of Odyak parish, believes that if the development continues, they will receive more blessings and live longer.

Meanwhile, Pule Thomas Kasuk, the sub-county LC3 chairperson, stated that the government of Uganda values older people as the foundation for future generations.

“As a sub-county, we allocated a lump sum fund to purchase and support the elderly, particularly those who have not yet enrolled in the SAGE system,” Pule explained.

He also stated that the sub-county will allocate funds in the coming fiscal year and identify additional potential beneficiaries from selected parishes.

This fiscal year alone, thirty-one beneficiaries have received such donations.
