Alebtong | The territorial police in Alebtong district are detaining five people on suspicion of spreading propaganda against the government programme, according to SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, the PRO of North Kyoga.
The allegation happened on May 9, 2024, from Alebtong’s Atedi A cell, Alebtong Town Council, Alebtong district.
Odyek Alex, 44, a medical officer at Alebtong Health Centre IV, reported the anti-government crusade to the Alebtong Central Police Station.
According to SP Okema, on May 9, 2024, around 6 p.m., the DPC of Alebtong received information from Odyek Alex that some preachers were speaking negatively and discouraging members of the public about the census exercise, which began on May 10, 2024.
“A team of police officers from Alebtong CPS immediately responded and apprehended five people,” he said.
Obangakene Daniel, 30, a Deacon and resident of Atedi A cell, Alyee ward, Alebtong Town Council, and Ogenrwot Jesse, 20, both from the same location, have been arrested.

While making their statements, they claimed to be inspired by a pastor from Lira City named Obua Silver of the Peace of Trumpet Ministry Uganda.
“They were preaching against immunisation, census, and national ID, that the government’s programmes are all devilish and satanic, and that the community should not participate,” Okema told tndNews.
They were later charged with the offence of common nuisance.
The church leader from the Peace of Trumpet Ministry, pastor Obua Silver, is still being sought after. The ministry is situated in Adyaka, Amach in the Lira City East Division.
“We urge anyone who knows the pastor’s whereabouts to quietly share it with the police to aid investigations.”
The anti-government critics were arrested and detained at Alebtong CPS, and statements from relevant witnesses were recorded. Exhibits such as the speaker, microphone, bicycle were all recovered and exhibited.
Okema stated that the case file is ready for submission to the Resident State Attorney for review and legal advice.
