Pader: Elders aged 111 and 84 say have missed SAGE money since 2021

Pader | At least three older persons from Te-okutu village, Te-okutu parish in Tenam sub-county in Pader district have reported issues of missing the Social Assistance Grants for Empowerment (SAGE) funds.

The trio says it is three consecutive years since 2021.

Belmos Kazura Omara, the Tenam sub-county LC3 chairperson, has spoken on the matter.

He said Irikano Ocaya,111, has missed the payments since 2021 under unclear circumstances. The elder, he said, was told to register again, but in vain.

Another, Amoi Beatrice, 84, explains that the government should help them to receive the money.

Omara said it’s “an ordeal” for the district to intervene and help.


Festo Okidi, the Pader District Community Development Officer said the data for payment is managed by the Ministry of Gender, Labor and Social Development, not the district.

The district, Omara, told tndNews, knows some sections of elderly persons missing their payments.

“It’s being worked upon to restore hope.”

Meanwhile, Thomas Owor, the Pader district SAGE Focal Point Person said data in regards to the above complaint have been captured.

Owor revealed that the affected beneficiaries will receive their payments in the next schedule.

Pader district currently has over 1,700 elderly persons under SAGE, down from 2,400 at the beginning of the program.

As of August 202, SAGE had benefited close to 379,800 in 146 districts, including municipalities and cities, data from the government showed.

Every month, elders aged 80+ and have been enrolled for the grant get shs25,000.
