Soroti | On Monday at around 11 a.m., Peter Ebau, the LC3 chairperson of Awaliwal sub-county in Soroti district, surrendered to the police.
He was later arrested and held at Katine Central Police Station for allegedly defiling and impregnating a minor.
Edison Obukulem, the acting police PRO of East Kyoga, confirmed the arrest, saying Ebau is currently detained.
According to police, John Odera, 48, the LC1 chairperson of Amoroto A village, reported the alleged defilement of a 16-year-old.
Odera revealed that the defilement occurred on April 24, 2024, while the victim was working as a maid.
Ebau suspect gave the victim a phone to use for communication, Odera told police, adding that the sexpest local leader later removed the phone and began threatening the 16-year-old to sleep with him again.
The threat and sex demand prompted the girl to flee to her birthplace in Toroma sub-county, Katakwi.
The suspect’s wife’s attention was caught. She went to the girl’s parents and brought her back, but her husband continued to beat her until she fled again for her parents.
The family of the sexually abused girl intervened through the clan leader and LC1, and a letter was sent to the LC1 in Amoroto A, where the girl was staying.
During the police interrogation, it was discovered that the girl was four months pregnant and confessed that her first attempt at sleeping was in a guest house along the Soroti-Moroto Highway.
The incident was reported to Gweri Police Station under the case number SD Ref 07/10/05/2024.
Ebau surrendered himself to Soroti Regional Police CID when he realised he was being looked for. He was arrested and handed over to OC CID Katine Police Station in Soroti district.
Another case was recorded at Katine Police Station under CRB 143/2024.
While awaiting his court appearance, Ebau is currently under state cooling.
