Police identify suspects in mob killing in Amolatar district

Police in Amolatar district have arrested three individuals in connection with the mob killing of Okello Joel, which occurred on October 19, 2025, in Oribcing village, Agikdak parish, Agikdak sub-county.

SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, the North Kyoga Regional Police PRO, identified the suspects in a statement on Monday.

The crime reportedly took place around 9:00 am on October 19, when the deceased was accused of stealing a bicycle. A group of approximately seven individuals, including the three suspects, allegedly confronted Okello Joel, beating him with sticks until he lost consciousness and later died.

The suspects fled the scene, leaving his body at his home.

A team from Amolatar Central Police Station, led by the District Police Commander, visited the crime scene, SP Okema added.

Evidence, including broken sticks believed to have been used in the assault and murder, was recovered as exhibits.

Statements were recorded from the individual who reported the incident and the local LC1 chairperson of the area. The body of the deceased has been taken to Amolatar Health Centre IV for a postmortem examination.

The three suspects are currently detained at Amolatar CPS as the investigation continues. SP Okema reiterated the police’s appeal to the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and to instead support law enforcement with credible information and evidence.

The suspects are Angii Ivan, 21, a peasant farmer and resident of Oribcing village, Olwa Jimmy, 61, a peasant farmer and resident of Oribcing village and Ojam Emmy, 19, a peasant farmer and resident of Oribcing village
