Kwania – Following the robbery of a census enumerator, police in the Kwania district have intensified their investigations.
The incident allegedly took place in Bung Cell, Teduka Ward, Aduku Town Council, Kwania District.
The North Kyoga Police PRO, SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, released a statement regarding the crime on Monday, May 20, 2024.
According to Okema, Robina Ewao, 26, a resident of Olami “B” village, Ikwera parish, Aduku town council in Kwania, filed the case.
The findings show that on May 20, 2024, at around 9:30 a.m., two men riding an unidentified boda-boda motorcycle stopped Ewao in Bung-Teduka, Teduka ward.
She was also on another motorbike, heading to Ogobi village to help a friend count people.
According to the statement, “two men asked her (Ewao) if she had seen their money, which they claimed they had lost.”
“Before she could reply, they grabbed the bag containing the tablet and an Infinix phone with cash worth (shs4000). However, they quickly took off, appearing to be drunk at the time.”
SP Okema told tndNews that a case of simple robbery has been registered at Kwania Central Police Station, with investigations underway to bring the accused to justice and recover the stolen items.
The PRO stated that police intelligence is on the ground and urged members of the public to assist police in apprehending the thugs by sharing any information that can aid in the investigation.
Uganda is currently conducting a national population and housing census, which was initially scheduled to last 10 days.
Since the exercise began a week ago, it has been marred by floods that have blocked most roads in Eastern Uganda, illiteracy among the enumerators in using the tablets, and theft of government gadgets used in the exercise.
