Also active in Oyam, panga-wielding brothers arrested in Jinja

Police in Jinja district are holding two brothers who are suspected of terrorising the community.

The arrest resulted from an operation conducted in their home in Buwenge town council, Jinja district. The search resulted in the discovery of housebreaking tools they were using to terrorise residents.

In a statement, Kiira Region Public Relations Officer James Mubi identified the suspects as Issa Kalulu, 24, of Mukwanga zone, and his younger brother Halid Kalulu, 21, of Kabi zone, Buwenge town council, Jinja district.

The chairperson LC1 of the Kabi zone, Muzamiru Nabikamba, was allegedly waylaid by the suspects on Sunday, May 19, 2024, during the night as he was travelling home, according to SP Mubi.

According to Mubi’s statement, the chairperson alarmed and drew the attention of local residents who illegally wanted to lynch the two brothers. 

However, the presence of a Buwenge Police patrol vehicle was able to quell the angry residents and arrest the duo.

“Upon arrest, a thorough search was conducted, and items such as hammers and pliers were recovered from their pockets.

 “Additionally, a search was later conducted at their respective areas of residences were housebreaking items were recovered including iron bars, big torches, solido wires, masks, hammers, and new pangas,” said SP Mubi. 

The Kiira spokesman also revealed that the duo has been terrorising residents of Buwenge town council in Jinja district, Mpumudde in Jinja city, and has operational bases in Iganga, Busia, and Oyam districts.
