Kotido |Lokeris Peter, Minister for Karamoja Affairs, and Wamala Nambozo Florence, State Minister, have pledged to expedite programmes aimed at transforming the Karamoja subregion.
Lokeris and Nambozo were in Kotido district on May 21 for their first visit to the sub-region, where they met with stakeholders after being appointed ministers.
“We came to introduce ourselves to you, the stakeholders, to interact and discuss issues with the goal of addressing them head on to improve and transform the Karamoja sub-region,” Lokeris stated.
He forbade retaliatory actions from criminal elements seeking to start a vicious cycle of criminal activity.
The minister also urged security commanders and local leaders to continue working together to maintain security and combat crime.

Weeding out the vice, he said, will open up new investment opportunities to accelerate development.
Wamala Nambozo Florence, Minister of State for Karamoja Affairs and Woman Member of Parliament for Sironko District, promised to work with local leaders.
She promised to focus her efforts on combating food insecurity, providing water for production, and ensuring that all children receive a compulsory education.
The Karamoja Development Agency, according to the Tuesday engagement, needs to be accelerated into reality because it is still one of the most important tools for achieving transformation.
Brig Gen Felix Busizoori, Deputy Commander of 3 Division, stated that the sub-region is relatively peaceful, owing to adherence to the existing Presidential Amnesty window, community mobilisation, and cross-border engagements.
The Commandant of the Anti-Stock Theft Unit, Senior Commissioner of Police Elias Kasirabo, assured the leaders of his continued support in closing gaps by ensuring access to police services, including canine services, improving road checkpoints, and regulating livestock markets to reduce thefts.
As a sign of continued voluntary participation in the ongoing disarmament operation, one Karacuna handed over a submachine gun, No. 06779, to the UPDF division leadership.
“The Karacuna, Pusia Lodomosia, is from Jimos village, Itakwara parish, Napumpum sub-county, Kotido district,” Major Isaac Oware, the Public Information Officer of 3 Division, stated.
