Alebtong moves to improve mobility

Alebtong

Alebtong | In an effort to improve locals’ access to social services and other government programmes, the Alebtong district has begun construction on 10 roads and four local bridges in all sub-counties.

Dorcas Acen, the district’s woman Member of Parliament, stated at the launch on Thursday, May 9, 2024, that all selected roads and bridges that are currently under construction will be completed this fiscal year (2023/2024).

MP Acen, who also chairs the Alebtong district roads committee, stated that the cost of five roads and two bridges in Ajuri County, as well as others in Moroto County, will be shs500 million.

The woman MP described the construction of 11 community roads and four bridges in fiscal year 2023/2024 as a success.

She also revealed that 22 roads and several bridges will be completed during the current fiscal year.

The roads planned for construction are Alebtong-Iceda-Okut-Ajuri (16 km), Abako-Ojul-Teowelo (11 km), Amugu-Ajuri swamp-Amononeno (6 km), Ogowie-Baropiro-Amugu (13.4 km), and Obangangeo-Omoro-Otuke (22.5 km).

According to MP Acen, roads in Moroto County include the Aloi-Oloo bridge (15 km), Alebtong-Awiny/Anara (11 km), and Alebtong Town Council-Anino Station-Alela (11 km).

Others include Akura-Oteno-Abia (12 km), Yatamenya-Omele-Akura (10 km), and Tedwii-Orupu-Bar sub-county border (8 km).

Denis Hamson Obua, the Government Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for Ajuri County, urged the community to remain calm.

Obua stated that the problem of road status is widespread, noting that the chosen roads will ensure interconnectedness in all sub-counties in the district.

According to him, their primary goal is to upgrade existing roads before opening new ones.

David Kennedy Odongo, also known as “DK Odongo,” is the Alebtong LC5 chairperson. He credited the two MPs for their continuous lobbying for the district.

DK, who belongs to the opposition UPC party, has promised to campaign for GCW Obua and MP Acen in 2026.
