Moroto | Major General Don William Nabasa, Commander of the UPDF 3 Infantry Division, urged troops on Monday to carefully invest in income-generating activities that will provide for them even after they retire.
He urged the men in uniform to invest in projects that would not cost more than 80% of their budget.
He made the remarks while presiding over the handover ceremony of the Commander of the 203 Anti Aircraft (AAA) Brigade from Col Robert Katanaka to Lt Col Moses Odeke.
The event happened at Moroto army barracks, Karamoja sub-region.
Col Katanaka is the outgoing Commander of the Brigade. He is set to retire by end of April 24 .
“I commend Col Katanaka for boosting the formation’s manpower and conducting refresher training to enhance soldiers’ capacity, among other achievements,” Maj Gen Nabasa noted.
He urged commanders and key staff officers to support the new Brigade leadership.
Maj Gen Nabasa also advised officers nearing retirement to invest wisely and to avoid taking on projects that would deplete their overall resources without proper management skills.

The presiding officer stated that military service provides its personnel with a set of unique skills, discipline, and flexibility that allow them to adjust to meaningful living even after retirement.
LBrig Gen Felix Busizoori, Deputy 3 Division Commander, thanked Col Katanaka for his 40-year service, describing it as a “reckonable period.” He urged troops to emulate the same good conduct.
Col Robert Katanaka thanked the UPDF leadership for their continued support as he carried out his duties and responsibilities.
He also appreciated the Division leadership for embracing the Brigade in its command and administrative structures at all levels especially after the dissolution of the former Air Defence Division.
The outgoing 203 AAC Commander stated that discipline, resilience, and integrity remain the benchmark characteristics that propel the brigade to greater heights.
In his acceptance speech, Lt Col Odeke thanked the army leadership and his predecessor for entrusting him with the new task and providing good mentorship.
