Lira – February 9, 2022: Lira Chief Magistrate Court has sentenced to 7 years imprisonment a 19-year-old young man after he pleaded guilty to defiling a juvenile aged 14.
The above Court found that Ricky Okello, a residence of Lwala village, Arwotomito parish, Ayami sub-county in Lira district defiled a 14-year-old while knowing that she is still a juvenile.
State prosecutor earlier told Court that Okello committed the offense in January 2022 after he first went to the home of the victim and later sent one of his friends only identified as Joseph to call the girl for him.
State also told Court that Okello had promised the young girl that he was going to marry her. He lived with her for two days.
Thereafter, the girl went to her stepmother who later called his father and the girl revealed that she was with Okello.
Okello Jimmy pleaded quality to defilement but told Court that the girl told him she is 16 years old. “I had sexual intercourse with her only once,” he told the Court.
The State prosecutor requested the Court to sentence Okello to 6 years imprisonment but the accused Lawyer requested the same Court to convict Okello to only one year.
On February 8, Lira Chief Magistrate Samson Abiti Loum passed his ruling and sentenced Okello to 7 years in prison.
