Bomb explodes in Otuke, one injured

The incident took place in Alibu cell, Bardogu ward, Otuke Town council in Otuke district.

Lira – 9, July 2021: On the 9, July 2021 at about 0800hrs a bomb exploded in Otuke injuring Odong Felix.

“A one Odong Felix, male of 15yrs was ploughing a garden with his father one Abor Milton and mother Atim Lydia,” ASP Jimmy Patrick Okema, the North Kyoga Region police spokesperson says.

“The ox plough brought up an object which looked like a bomb and as the victim was attempting to throw it away, it exploded,” he told media, Friday.

ASP Okema added that the explosion “shuttered Odong’s right hand palm and the tree which was near by also destroyed.”

There have been nothing like this in years since the LRA rebels were defeated. However, some bombs were recovered during the era of Robert Abak, the then RDC.

“He (Odong) has been rushed to Orum HCIV where the hand was dressed and then refered to Lira Regional Referral hospital for surgery,” adds Okema.

“Particles picked by area GISO and taken to police.”

“We would like to discourage members of the public from picking such items once identified instead they should notify authorities.”
