Mutebile who controlled the Central Bank of Uganda for two decades died of diabetes and other complications as per the report.
Kampala – January 27, 2022: The Parliament of Uganda’s Thursday special sitting is to pay tributes to the former Governor of the Bank of Uganda, Professor Emmanuel Tumusime Mutebile.
Eulogized by many as an icon, astute economist, among many positive tributes, Mutebile died last week from a Kenyan hospital.
He succumbed to diabetes and other complications, as per the report.
Jimmy Akena, MP Lira City East Division told Parliament the friendship between his late father (Milton Obote) and Mutebile.
He added that the late Milton Obote admired Mutebile and treated him as a family member, recalling that Mutebile kept close to the family even after the demise of Obote.
Bukooli Central MP, Solomon Silwany also told Parliament Thursday that an amendment to the motion for the family of late Mutebile be made to retain their home in Kololo which is a government property (Official residence of Governor Bank of Uganda).
According to the Parliament Watch, the MP is concerned that the family may not be certain of their next move.
Anita Among, Deputy Speaker of Parliament had earlier said Thomas Tayebwa (Government Chief Whip) should make sure that the official residence is given to the family in honour of his integrity.
President Museveni who kept Mutebile at the helm of the Central Bank for two decades said the late will be remembered for “steering the economy of our country through a strong tide.”
