Opulent House: Speaker Among asks Ugandans for forgiveness

Among

During her ongoing tenure as speaker, the Ugandan Parliament has received a number of public criticisms for how it handled national affairs.

Accountability, opulent spending, and the lifestyles of the speaker and her MPs irritate some Ugandans.

Furthermore, the Ugandan Parliament under Among has faced public criticism for allegations of corruption and nepotism.

Angry Ugandans at home and abroad have in recent times demanded the speaker’s resignation, which she laughed off.

This year, angry youth demonstrated near Parliament to protest how the House is run.

These demonstrators, some of whom were young ladies, were arrested and remanded in Luzira prison before being released by the court.

Now repentant

During the end-of-year party for Parliament and guests, speaker Among asked forgiveness from all Ugandans for all the wrongs Parliament had done, whether knowingly or unknowingly.

She has pledged to cleanse the Legislature, but has admitted that the process will take longer than a single day, and could take months.
