Lira – January 28, 2022: A court case filed against Ibuje Sub-county, Matrix Lands Limited and two others has been dismissed.

Mrs. Sophia Okune (administrator of the estate of the late Joseph William Okune) and Awin Stone Quarry Cooperative Society (applicants) had filed a case before Lira High Court to bar the respondents from using the Ibuje Rock (Got).

Their plea was later granted by the Assistant Registrar of Lira High Court, Godfrey Ngobi Ssalamu on September 23, 2021.

Ngobi on that day issued a short-term injunction, prohibiting the above respondents from carrying out any activity as requested by Mrs. Sophia Okune and others.

They (petitioners) accused Ibuje Sub-county and others of trespass

However, on January 27, 2022 Hon. Justice Duncan Gawaga, Resident Judge Lira High Court dismissed earlier restriction imposed on Ibuje Sub-county, Matrix Lands Limited and others not to use the Ibuje rock.

The respondents were quarrying the contested rock for road works in Lango sub-region.

Justice Gawaga dismissed the case with costs, directing Mrs. Sohia Okune and others to liaise with the Registrar of the same Court and other parties for the final execution of the final judgment.

Lawyers for Respondents Masika Brain and Doris Twesigomwe were all present during the judgment while the Applicants’ Lawyers were absent.
