Kampala – January 8, 2022: Uganda Peoples Defense Forces (UPDF) will soon start countrywide recruitment of cadets, Lieutenant General (Lt. Gen.) Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Commander of Land Forces has announced.

Announcing via Twitter Saturday afternoon, he wrote: “To all our young compatriots who want to join us in the great UPDF as cadets, the recruiting teams will be coming soon to your districts.”

“The universal standards are that you must be Ugandan, medically fit and an ‘A’ level graduate. God bless the Father land.”

The UPDF would later confirm Muhoozi’s tweet with the same messages.

In July 2019, President Museveni commissioned 223 cadets officers after they underwent 52 weeks of military training. Among those commissioned included 20 Somalis and 24 female cadet officers.

Most recently, in April 2021, Museveni passed out 1,143 UPDF cadet officers. Among them were air force cadets. The officers took half a year to finish the training at Uganda Military Academy, Kabamba.

Speaking on that day, Gen. Museveni directed UPDF leadership to monitor the “progression of staff” and “ensure there is no stagnation in the ranks”.
