FoG Football Academy to nurture sports talents

Oyam – 21, October 2021: Friends of Goodwill (FoG) is a not-for-profit NGO working in the sectors of health, socioeconomic empowerment and now sports.

Over the years, FoG has offered free medical services to communities in Oyam and Apac districts, with Aber, Kamdini sub counties key beneficiaries.

Hundreds of youth, mothers (including teenage mothers) have received different medical services: free HIV/AIDS testing, peer to peer engagement, including business skills to help them prosper in business.

With more compassion for the youth and teens with talents in  sports, FoG decided to form Friends of Goodwill Football Academy (FoGFA).

FoGFA is also a non-profit making academy that was started in 2021.

FoGFA is an initiative of the FoG’s co-founders and directors, Peter Acol and Okada Tommy.

Peter Acol is the FoGFA president based in the United Kingdom while Tommy Okada is the academy’s CEO in Uganda.

FoGFA is aiming at “promoting sports in Apac district and neighborhood especially Oyam district” where her parent organisation, FoG has a branch office, according to Denis Edule, the academy’s managing director.

With its head office at ASDI building, Republic Street, Biashara cell in Apac Municipal Council, FoGFA’s mission is to enhance and promote competitive sports both at local, national and international levels.

“To be the leading multidisciplinary sports academy by the year 2040,” Edule said of its vision.

Some of the FoGFA’s objectives are, to: identity, develop, train, nurture and expose to the world of sports inclusively of all sexes and children with special disability.

The current activities are training, scouting of talented players: under 12 and under 14 from different clubs organized by FoGFA to be brought to the academy.

Currently, there are friendly matches with clubs and the academy from neighboring districts.

“I call for support from any sports lovers, donors and well-wishers to help us promote good career of young children in sports,” Edule asked.

FoGFA recently received support from the UK (training kits) from Africa Care and Development Trust (ACDT).

FoGFA is generously supported by her Trustees from USA, Demark and family of founder of Friends of Goodwill (FoG), Acol Peter.

Edule further calls for “honorable support” from donors, sports men and women, and well-wishers for the good career of our young people in sports.
