Kole: Breastfeeding-drunk mother punches mother in-law

Kole—3, August 2021: A family in Abuge village, Abur parish, Ayer in Kole district is astonished after mother of three beat up her mother-in-law on Monday night.

Village mates have joined them in wondering why she beat an old woman who was taking care of her baby (grandchild) while she was not around. She is not the first one to do that, for sure.

Dilis Acola is a mother who has brought the entire village to a state of concern, becoming the first wife to beat her mother-in-law in that village.

According to villagers who spoke to TND News Tuesday, the breastfeeding mother is a popular tippler, and she is proud of it. She is a wife of Atoo Maxwel.

On Monday, she returned home from a drinking joint at 8pm; and she started insulting and abusing the old woman.

“She got home very drunk, and instead of giving the baby breast milk, she beat her,” Okite Felix, one villager, narrates.

She has given Atoo three children, the youngest now 6 months old.

TND News can report that the case is being handled at a family level, with dozens of canes one of the options as a penalty for Dilis.

“We are expecting and demanding for a cleansing ceremony,” one source told us on condition of anonymity.

Ewel Isaac is Dilis’s father-in-law. He spoke to TND News Tuesday afternoon. “She came back home at 8pm from a grinding mill and started insulting her mother-in-law; beat her up and I had to come from the house and calm them.”

He vehemently denies a local media report on Tuesday that she fed the baby with fluids from her vulva. “It’s not true and we are very sad media here reported that way,” he added.
