Detonation of deadly bombs within Gulu progressing

Gulu – 20, August 2021: The office of the Resident District Commission (RDC) Gulu district together with the 4th Division Engineering Brigade on Thursday started detonation of unexploded bombs that were reported by the residents of Gulu district.

Stephen Odong Latek, the Gulu RDC confirmed that a team of the engineering brigade together with his office started the detonation process. He called the bombs “dangerous”.

“The bombs were reported in the sub counties of Palaro, Omel, Paibona, Patiko and Unyama and the team started the detonation work on Thursday [yesterday] with Palaro and will later head to Omel, Paibona and other sub counties will follow in suit,” Latek adds.

He says the two bombs were reported in Palaro, two in Omel, five in Paibona and that Patiko and Unyama have no reported cases.

“I therefore appealed to the communities of the affected areas to cooperate with the team and notices had been sent to the communities through the LC I chairpersons of the areas,” RDC adds.

Latek further noted that the already started process of detonation will continue, and communities should inform the office of the RDC or the engineering brigade who are expertise in the field to help explode these bombs which are threats to human lives.

The 20 years of Lord Resistance Army – LRA insurgency in Northern Uganda has left so many unexploded bombs and Gulu was the main district where the war was majorly fought.
