Police in Lira district, North Kyoga Region, have arrested the Principal of Barlonyo Agro Technical Institute, Kamba Ben.
Kamba was arrested on allegations of abuse of office and causing financial loss. The arrest relates to the alleged misuse of over shs300 million in government funds meant to run the institute.
Addressing journalists on Friday, November 6, 2026, in Lira City, SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, the North Kyoga Regional Police PRO, confirmed the arrest of the Principal.
SP Okema added that the arrest followed a matter raised by the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Lira during a District Security Committee (DSC) meeting.
The Lira District Internal Auditor tasked the Principal with providing the books of account for audit to address the issues raised at the DSC meeting, but he declined.
Preliminary information indicates that between February 2025 and September 2026, the Principal received a grant worth over shs300 million from the government to support operations at the institute, which he has failed to account for.
It is further alleged that students and teachers have on many occasions been involved in strikes over the misuse of funds by the Principal, Kamba Ben.
Police in Ogur summoned him to record a statement, but he remained hesitant. On the evening of November 6, he was arrested and is currently being detained in custody at Lira District Police Station in Ogur as investigations continue.
All other necessary processes will be completed before his file is compiled and submitted to the Resident State Attorney for perusal and legal guidance, SP Okema said.
Kamba is not new to corruption. He previously worked as the principal of Amelo Technical Institute in Adjumani district.
There, he faced legal and administrative concerns.
In July 2022, he faced charges alongside an auditor regarding abuse of office and related allegations linked to Amelo Technical Institute.

From Amelo, he was transferred to Barlonyo Agro Technical Institute.
