Rest In Peace! Student Shot Dead On His Way To School

The mother of 15-year-old Ghanaian boy Javits Frimpong, who was fatally shot while walking to school in the Bronx, New York, is set to receive an immediate visa to travel to the United States and give her son a final farewell. The development has brought some relief to the grieving family as they prepare to deal with the painful loss.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced the development on Saturday, saying he had spoken directly with US President Donald Trump about the mother’s situation. According to Mamdani, Trump agreed that the woman should be granted a visa immediately to enable her to travel to the United States.

Frimpong was reportedly shot dead on Thursday morning while making his way to school in the Bronx. His sudden death has left his family and the Ghanaian community grieving, with many struggling to understand how a young boy’s life could be cut short while carrying out an ordinary school routine.

Police are reportedly looking for three teenage boys suspected of being connected to the shooting. The suspects remain on the run, according to the information provided, as investigations continue to establish what happened and the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.

The teenager had reportedly been in the United States for about one year after his father brought him to the country to begin his education. His journey to pursue schooling in America has now ended in tragedy, leaving his parents facing the heartbreaking reality of losing their child far from home.

For his mother, travelling to the United States will provide an opportunity to see her son one last time and participate in the farewell arrangements. The visa intervention followed discussions between Mamdani and Trump, highlighting the urgency of helping the grieving parent reach her son.

The case has also drawn attention to the safety of young people in New York, particularly students who travel to and from school. As police continue searching for the suspects, the family is left waiting for answers about the circumstances that led to the teenager’s death.

Meanwhile, the Ghanaian community and other well-wishers have been expressing sympathy to the bereaved family. The immediate priority remains supporting his parents during this difficult period, while authorities work to identify and apprehend those responsible for the fatal shooting.
