New Details Emerge Over Fight That Preceded Moses Matovu’s Death

New details have emerged surrounding the death of Afrigo Band leader Moses Matovu, with an eyewitness giving a different account of the confrontation that reportedly preceded the veteran musician’s death.

Matovu died on Thursday morning, September 24, 2026, after he was reportedly rushed to Kibuli Hospital following an incident in the Kibuli area of Kampala.

Initial reports had linked his death to an alleged attack by a Kifeesi, but an eyewitness who spoke to NTV has provided a different version of what happened before the musician was taken to hospital.

According to the eyewitness, Matovu had parked his vehicle by the roadside in Kibuli and was escorting a female acquaintance to her rental residence.

The eyewitness said that while Matovu was with the woman, they were confronted by a man who was reportedly believed to be her boyfriend.

A confrontation allegedly followed between Matovu and the man, eventually turning into a physical scuffle.

The eyewitness claimed that Matovu was punched during the confrontation and fell to the ground, sustaining injuries and bleeding heavily.

He was subsequently rushed to Kibuli Hospital for medical attention, where he later died.

The eyewitness further claimed that the confrontation was not the first disagreement between Matovu and the man, although the circumstances surrounding any previous encounters remain subject to police investigations.

Police detectives have reportedly taken the woman who was with Matovu into custody for questioning as investigators work to establish what exactly happened.

The male suspect is also reportedly known to police but is said to have fled the scene following the confrontation. His current whereabouts remain unknown.

Police have not yet publicly provided a detailed account of the incident or confirmed all the claims contained in the eyewitness account.
